Huangshi is a
prefecture-level city in Hubei Province. It is located in the southeast of Hubei Province. It is on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It faces the Yangtze River in the northeast. It is across the river from Huanggang City. It is adjacent to Xian'an District and Tongshan County, and it borders Wuning County and Ruichang City in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province in the southeast.
Huangshi is one of the first two provincial cities established in Hubei Province after the founding of New China. It is a deputy central city in the Wuhan metropolitan area, an important member of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, an important raw material industrial base in central China, and a pilot city for the transformation and exhaustion of resources. Approved to open cities along the river.  In June 2017, Huangshi City was named the National Sanitary City.
